Numerous accessories are manufactured for bicycles and cyclists. Thinking of these products we often think of the helmets, lights, water bottles, specialized clothing, speedometer, and racks. An important accessory bicycle should not be without a good locking system. Just because you live in a relatively safe neighborhood does not mean they have no need of a lock.

There are basically two options when it comes to locking systems for bicycles. The most popular is the chain or cable lock with either alone or a padlock or combination lock with the lock built into the chain or cable. If this is the type of lock you're looking at, make sure it is long enough to wrap around the wheels and chassis. With this type of locking system, the best option is a string that is as thick as you can comfortably carry.
If you prefer a cable, again, be sure to buy the thickest possible. The thicker the chain or cable, over a deterrent that will be for thieves and scoundrels. The downside, of course, is weight. Cables tend to be lighter than chains, but also tend to be easier to cut. You have to consider the importance of weight in relation to their business by bike.
An avid runner is very concerned with weight, but such competition is not going to leave your bike alone there, either. In all likelihood, the weight is not a serious problem. One advantage of cable chain locks have more than other varieties of locks is their ability to cover irregularly shaped objects such as trees, shrubs, etc.
The other popular bike lock system is the U-lock. As its name suggests, locks like a big bend in them and are essentially large padlocks. Some are only large enough to encircle the rear wheel and the rack. Other are big enough to go around the frame too. This type of locks are good because they are quick to use and come with clips to hook onto the bike frame without scratching it.
Whatever type of bike you intend to do, unless exclusively racing competition, we must invest in a good lock. You should get the heaviest you can. An important feature to look for is some kind of guarantee by the manufacturer. Good locks come with guarantees that if used correctly, and your bike is stolen, the manufacturer will refund the cost of your bike.
