Bicycle Training
Can anyone recommend good books on training for a bicycle race of the century?
I have a trip coming century, in May and around 14 weeks to train. I'm 28 years old beginner fitness average.
I recommend you check out the cycling training the Bible by Joe Friel. The author is a well known and highly regarded trainer who worked with Lance Armstrong and many other cyclists. Joe Friel, like most coaches, is a strong advocate of breaking the year training in the periods that allow its peak most important events. In reading your book, do not allow yourself to despair which has begun training for your career too late. I recommend you take his advice with the understanding they may not be at their peak at the time of his century produced. However, fitness is a process and will become stronger and better every year by train. Hope this helps.
